This is the beginning of a permaculture garden at the school in Valencia. Students have started planting vegetables and looking after fruit trees. The drip irrigation system helps save water and supports sustainable gardening. The garden will continue to grow during the project and will become an outdoor learning space where students can learn about the environment, healthy food, and sustainable living.
In the grassy courtyard behind the school building in Sibiu, a small permaculture garden bed features nasturtium with yellow blooms alongside squash or pumpkin plants, with a young staked sapling growing nearby. The surrounding lawn is left natural to encourage local biodiversity.
The photo was taken after the harvest. After gathering the produce, we trampled the remaining plant matter into the soil to serve as fertilizer, and we are now waiting for it to decompose.
A feast for the eye, a feast for the palate.
The broad beans we planted in our permaculture garden to improve the soil structure, enrich it with nitrogen, and use as fertilizer have grown and produced a harvest.
